Investigation of cycloaliphatic amine-cured bisphenol-A epoxy resin under quenching treatment and the effect on its carbon fiber composite lamination strength

Abstract Thermosetting epoxy resin polymer with cycloaliphatic amines curing agent has been widely used for a composite matrix carbon fiber reinforcement. The utilization was increased due to the superior performance of this compared other polymers. However, changing operational environment potentially reduced performance, which most likely begins degradation. This research applies thermal treatment by quenching process sequence and its reinforced (CFRP). is made diglycidyl ether bisphenol-A, amine as strengthening mat/woven. Three times performed heating specimen around glass transition temperature then dipped immediately in fresh water. After treatment, shows reduction tensile strength elongation. Under infrared observation, does not significantly show changes functional groups. Investigation under X-ray refraction also indicates no difference crystalline structure; stays an amorphous form before after quenching. In contrast matrix, CFRP above s revealed increase interlaminar shear (ILSS). ductility should be carefully considered application sheets or construction materials.
